Mashed Potato & Ground Beef Casserole

🧀 Ingredients

For the mashed potatoes:

4–5 large potatoes (peeled and chopped)

2 tablespoons butter

1/2 cup milk

Salt and pepper to taste

For the meat filling:

400–500 g ground beef

1 small onion (finely chopped)

2 cloves garlic (minced)

1 cup tomato sauce

1 tablespoon tomato paste

Salt and pepper to taste

1 teaspoon paprika (optional)

1/2 teaspoon oregano (optional)

1 tablespoon oil

For topping:

1–1.5 cups shredded mozzarella cheese (or any melting cheese)

🍲 Instructions

  1. Prepare the mashed potatoes:
  2. Boil the potatoes in salted water until soft (about 15–20 minutes).
  3. Drain and mash them.
  4. Add butter, milk, salt, and pepper. Mix until smooth and creamy.

  1. Cook the meat filling:
  2. Heat oil in a pan.
  3. Add chopped onion and cook until soft.
  4. Add garlic and cook for 1 minute.
  5. Add ground beef and cook until browned.
  6. Stir in tomato sauce, tomato paste, and spices.
  7. Let it simmer for 10 minutes until thickened.

  1. Assemble the casserole:
  2. In a baking dish, spread a layer of mashed potatoes.
  3. Add a layer of the meat mixture.
  4. Add another layer of mashed potatoes on top.
  5. Sprinkle shredded cheese evenly over the top.

  1. Bake:

Bake in a preheated oven at 180°C (350°F) for about 20–25 minutes, until the cheese is melted and golden.
