Mashed Potato & Ground Beef Casserole
🧀 Ingredients
For the mashed potatoes:
4–5 large potatoes (peeled and chopped)
2 tablespoons butter
1/2 cup milk
Salt and pepper to taste
For the meat filling:
400–500 g ground beef
1 small onion (finely chopped)
2 cloves garlic (minced)
1 cup tomato sauce
1 tablespoon tomato paste
Salt and pepper to taste
1 teaspoon paprika (optional)
1/2 teaspoon oregano (optional)
1 tablespoon oil
For topping:
1–1.5 cups shredded mozzarella cheese (or any melting cheese)
🍲 Instructions
- Prepare the mashed potatoes:
- Boil the potatoes in salted water until soft (about 15–20 minutes).
- Drain and mash them.
- Add butter, milk, salt, and pepper. Mix until smooth and creamy.
- Cook the meat filling:
- Heat oil in a pan.
- Add chopped onion and cook until soft.
- Add garlic and cook for 1 minute.
- Add ground beef and cook until browned.
- Stir in tomato sauce, tomato paste, and spices.
- Let it simmer for 10 minutes until thickened.
- Assemble the casserole:
- In a baking dish, spread a layer of mashed potatoes.
- Add a layer of the meat mixture.
- Add another layer of mashed potatoes on top.
- Sprinkle shredded cheese evenly over the top.
- Bake:
Bake in a preheated oven at 180°C (350°F) for about 20–25 minutes, until the cheese is melted and golden.
