Classic Baked Potato with Butter and Chive
This classic baked potato recipe is crispy on the outside, fluffy on the inside, and perfectly topped with melted butter, fresh chives, salt, and black pepper. It’s an easy, comforting side dish or light meal that never goes out of style.
Ingredients
4 large russet potatoes
4 tablespoons unsalted butter
2 tablespoons fresh chives, finely chopped
1 tablespoon olive oil
1 teaspoon sea salt (or to taste)
½ teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
Instructions
Step 1: Prepare the Potatoes
Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C).
Wash the potatoes thoroughly and pat them dry. Use a fork to pierce each potato several times to allow steam to escape while baking.
Step 2: Season
Rub each potato with olive oil and sprinkle evenly with sea salt.
Step 3: Bake
Place the potatoes directly on the oven rack or on a baking tray.
Bake for 50–60 minutes, or until the skin is crispy and a fork easily pierces the center.
Step 4: Open and Fluff
Remove the potatoes from the oven.
Cut a slit down the center of each potato and gently squeeze the sides to fluff the inside.
Step 5: Add Toppings
Place a slice of butter inside each hot potato so it melts naturally.
Season with black pepper and sprinkle chopped chives on top.
Tips for the Best Baked Potato
Russet potatoes are best for baking because of their fluffy texture.
For extra crispy skin, bake directly on the oven rack.
