Creamy Biscuit Custard Dessert

Ingredients

For the Custard Layer:

1 liter (4 cups) whole milk

4 tablespoons custard powder (vanilla flavor)

4 tablespoons sugar (adjust to taste)

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

2 tablespoons unsalted butter (optional, for extra creaminess)

For the Biscuit Crumb Layers:

250 g plain tea biscuits or digestive biscuits

100 g unsalted butter, melted

For Topping (optional):

Extra crushed biscuits

A pinch of cinnamon or cocoa powder (optional)

Preparation Method

Step 1: Prepare the Biscuit Crumbs

Start by crushing the biscuits into fine crumbs. You can do this by placing them in a food processor and blending until fine, or by putting them in a sealed plastic bag and crushing them with a rolling pin.
Transfer the biscuit crumbs to a bowl and pour the melted butter over them. Mix well until all the crumbs are evenly coated and resemble wet sand. This mixture will give structure and flavor to the dessert.

Step 2: Prepare the Custard Mixture

In a small bowl, mix the custard powder with about ½ cup of cold milk. Stir well until completely smooth and lump-free.
In a medium saucepan, pour the remaining milk and add the sugar. Place the saucepan over medium heat and stir continuously until the milk becomes warm (do not let it boil yet).
Slowly add the dissolved custard mixture to the warm milk while stirring constantly. Continue stirring to prevent lumps from forming.
Cook the mixture over medium heat, stirring continuously, until it thickens into a smooth and creamy custard. This will take about 5–7 minutes.
Once thickened, remove from heat and add vanilla extract and butter. Stir until fully incorporated. The custard should be silky and rich.

Step 3: Assemble the Dessert

Choose a glass or ceramic serving dish.
Spread a layer of biscuit crumbs evenly at the bottom of the dish and gently press it down using the back of a spoon.
Carefully pour a layer of hot custard over the biscuit base, spreading it evenly.
Add another layer of biscuit crumbs on top of the custard.
Repeat the layers until all ingredients are used, finishing with a generous layer of biscuit crumbs on top.

Step 4: Chill and Set

Allow the dessert to cool at room temperature for about 20 minutes.
Cover the dish with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 3–4 hours, or preferably overnight. This chilling time allows the custard to fully set and the biscuits to soften, creating a perfectly creamy texture.

Step 5: Serve

Once fully chilled, slice or scoop the dessert and serve cold.
You may sprinkle extra crushed biscuits, cinnamon, or cocoa powder on top for decoration and added flavor.

Tips for Best Results

Use whole milk for a richer and creamier texture.

Stir the custard continuously to avoid lumps.

For extra flavor, you can add lemon zest or caramel sauce between the layers.
